The 2024 ICC T20 World Cup Host
As announced on Thursday, Dominica’s Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports, and Community Development will not be hosting any ICC T20 World Cup 2024 matches.
Dominica decided not to host their designated T20 World Cup matches in 2019 after announcing on Thursday that it would not be able to meet the deadline for stadium development. Out of the seven Caribbean nations that were shortlisted to host, Dominica was chosen to host one group match and two Super Eight games at Windsor Park.
Although significant efforts were made to improve Benjamin’s Park and Windsor Park Sports Stadium, including making improvements to practice and match locations and adding more pitches, the government disclosed that the contractors’ schedules suggested they would not be able to finish the required work in time for the tournament to start.
The government wisely decided not to host any matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 after acknowledging the difficult timelines that the contractors had proposed. This choice is thought to be in the best interests of all parties involved, especially considering Dominica’s illustrious history of hosting international cricket matches.
The government conveyed its appreciation to Cricket West Indies (CWI) for their long-standing partnership and wished the tournament organizers a prosperous June 2024 evening. The ICC has not yet responded to this development as of yet.
In June 2024, the United States and the West Indies will host the T20 World Cup.
