Assam CM Himanta Sarma’s Take on India’s World Cup Final Loss: Unveiling the Insights into His Perspective on Indira Gandhi
It was suggested by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma that the reason India lost the World Cup final against Australia was because it was held on the anniversary of Indira Gandhi’s birth.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday hinted that India lost the World Cup final against Australia because the match was played on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, according to a report published by news agency PTI.
“That day was the India vs Australia World Cup match. We were winning every game. Lost the final. Then I came and saw. What was that day? Why did we lose? We are Hindus and I go by the day, etc.” Then I saw that the World Cup final was played on a day which also happened to be Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary,” he said.
Sarma alleged that the opposition parties were in ‘collusion’ with those opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that he would like to tell BCCI that in future it should ensure that the final match is not organized on the same day as the match day. Birthday of a member of the Nehru-Gandhi family.
“The World Cup final took place on the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi and the country lost. So I want to tell the BCCI that if you have a World Cup final match then settle the score. That day should not be associated with the Gandhi family. ” Otherwise, the country will lose,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.
The comments come amid a political controversy that started on Tuesday with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi saying “PM means Panauti Modi”, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi brings bad luck. The BJP condemned his remarks, calling them “shameful and derogatory” and demanded an apology. PM Modi participated in the World Cup final in Ahmedabad.
Gandhi had said, “Panauti…Panauti…Panauti…our boys were on the way to win the World Cup but Panauti defeated them…the people of this country know that.”
Following this comment, the Bharatiya Janata Party approached the Election Commission on 22 November and demanded action.
BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized the Congress leader and questioned the use of such a word for the Prime Minister of India and asked the Wayanad MP to apologise.
“What happened to you, Rahul Gandhi? You are using such words for the Prime Minister of the country. Our Prime Minister met the players and encouraged them. Winning or losing is part of the game. “Rahul Gandhi needs to apologise,” Prasad said.
