The second season of The Viral Fever (TVF)’s critically acclaimed program Panchayat won the first-ever IFFI Best Web Series (OTT) Award this year, marking the introduction of a new award category at IFFI.

With great fanfare, the 54th edition of the esteemed International Film Festival of India (IFFI) came to an end in Goa on Tuesday. The winners of the awards were unveiled and the accolades were given in front of a sizable group of delegates and dignitaries during the closing ceremony.

In the meantime, the inaugural IFFI Best Web Series (OTT) Award was given to the second season of TVF’s critically acclaimed show Panchayat, which debuted this year in a new award category.

The first season of the show, which depicts the life and journey of an engineering graduate who, due to a lack of employment opportunities, ends up becoming a panchayat secretary in the made-up village of Phulera, Uttar Pradesh, debuted on Prime Video in April 2020 during the Covid lockdown period and was met with immediate praise.

The first season of Rocket Boys, starring Nikkhil Advani and Abhay Pannu, was also singled out by the jury as a “must-watch.” Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express wrote in her review of the show: “The series transports you to a bygone era of India.” a period in which the liberal, democratic spirit of discussion and debate was palpable in the highest echelons of power, and idealism was a good word. Prime Ministers paid attention to scientists and their ideas, regardless of how absurd they initially appeared, because science and scientists were respected.

After 32 submissions from 15 OTT platforms in 10 different languages were shortlisted, four series were nominated. Human and Nirmal Pathak Ki Ghar Wapsi were also nominated. Along with a trophy, the award comes with Rs 10 lakh.
